Welcome to Alex Szabo's website!
Mr. Szabo serves as a trumpet and french horn private lesson instructor in the Leander Independent School District. He teaches trumpet at Leander High School and trumpet and french horn at Leander Middle School.
Mr. Szabo has been a resident of Cedar Park since his early childhood. He first started playing trumpet in 2003 at Cedar Park Middle School and later was a member of the Cedar Park High School Band. While in high school, he studied trumpet under Dr. Robert Cannon. Mr. Szabo was selected to be a member of the 2010 Texas All-State Band his senior year.
Mr. Szabo then went on to pursue a degree in Music Performance at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. While at Texas State, he performed with the Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, and Trumpet Ensembles. He performed with the Wind Symphony at the Texas Music Educators Association Conference in San Antonio in both 2011 and 2015, the College Band Directors National Association National Conference in Seattle in 2011, and the College Band Directors National Association Southwest Regional Conference in Fayetteville in 2014. He also performed with the Trumpet Ensemble at the National Trumpet Competition Semifinals in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania in 2015. He graduated from Texas State University in 2015. Mr. Szabo studied trumpet under Dr. Keith Winking and Dr. Robert Cannon during his time at Texas State.
Outside of school, Mr. Szabo spent the summers of 2010 through 2014 in the mellophone section of Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps. While in the corps, the group won the Jim Ott High Brass Award from 2011 to 2013, the John Brazale High Visual Award in 2012 and 2013, the Don Angelica High General Effect Award in 2013, and the Drum Corps International World Championship in 2013. He served on the leadership team for the corps from 2012 to 2014.
Outside of teaching lessons, Mr. Szabo serves as a marching technician at James Bowie High School in Austin, where he has been teaching since 2011. He will also be serving as a visual instructor for Violet Crown Independent Percussion in San Marcos this coming winter. Outside of teaching and performing, Mr. Szabo enjoys watching sports (especially any team from Boston/New England), arranging music, attending Texas Stars hockey games, and eating pizza.
